  Return to previous page

About the course

This Diabetes Awareness course is designed to support carers to understand diabetes and their role in providing safe, person-centred care. The course introduces the different types of diabetes, common signs and symptoms, and the impact diabetes can have on an individual’s daily life. It also explores the importance of monitoring, medication awareness, nutrition, and recognising changes in a person’s condition.

What will you learn

Carers will develop an understanding of how to support individuals with diabetes while promoting independence, dignity, and choice. The course emphasises the importance of early identification of concerns, effective communication, accurate record keeping, and knowing when to seek medical advice. It aligns with best practice, safeguarding principles, and carers’ duty of care within health and social care settings. By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
  • Understand diabetes
  • Recognise signs and symptoms
  • Support day-to-day care
  • Understand medication and monitoring
  • Respond to emergencies
