Course content

This topic covers the legal obligations and responsibilities of employers and employees to ensure safe manual handling practices are followed to prevent injuries.

Understanding the spine’s anatomy helps in recognizing the common types of injuries that can occur from improper manual handling, such as strains and herniated discs.

Ergonomics focuses on designing workplace tasks to suit the worker’s capabilities, aiming to minimize stress and injuries associated with manual handling.

The L.I.T.E (Load, Individual, Task, Environment) and TILE (Task, Individual, Load, Environment) acronyms are used to assess and plan safe lifting and handling to prevent injuries.

Safe practices for lifting objects involve assessing the weight, using stable and comfortable grips, and employing the legs to lift rather than the back.

Key elements include understanding the specific needs of the person being moved, communicating clearly, and using appropriate handling techniques to ensure safety.
